Saturday 20th January 2018 marked the official opening of Valletta 2018, a year long celebration commemorating Valletta as the European capital city of culture.

Valletta’s four main squares were characterized by a grand feast of art, dance, music and digital projections which awed the big crowds that filled the festive streets of the capital city.

The rise of the Tritons marked the celebration of the newly restored Triton fountain. A spectacular show was led by the theatrical company La Fura dels Baus.

Our Heart, a modern dance exhibition was delivered by Zfin Malta in St George’s Square whilst a choral symphony Two thousand and eighteen endowed the stairs of the Co-cathedral of St John within a backdrop of lighting effects that well accompanied the show.

The Past, Present and Future characterized Castille Palace through a 20 minute 3D mapping projection narrating Malta’s historical journey  From the depths of the past to the heights of the future.

The festa ended at St George’s square with a concert held by The Malta Philarmonic Orchestra together with DJ Tenishia.
